Ernest Henry Tunks

Ernest Henry, son of David Tunks and Magdelena Sitler, was born 11 June 1894 at ________________ (city).   Southwold Station, Ontario was his home for the 1901 census.

Ernest and brother Cliff went to the London Fair (Ontario) and they volunteered for the army. That was the 5th of October 1917. On Christmas Day they were on the plane to England. Cliff was only 17 and he wasn't sent to France, Ernest was.

A newspaper article mentioned that Ernest left England March 28th, and he survived 17 days at the front. Ernest was killed 14 April 1918 and was buried in Roclincourt Cemetery,  in  Roclincourt, France. The telegram sent by Chaplin A.J. Mimmat to Ernest's mother said that he died instantly.

It was this Chaplin that buried Ernest in plot 4, row C, grave 9.
