| Lucy, daughter of Robert
Parr and Hannah Charity, was born 15 May 1819 at
Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, England. Lucy was baptized
4 May 1828 with siblings Emma and George at the St. John the Evangelist
Church at Waterbeach. Lucy's parents brought Lucy and her siblings to
Ontario, Canada sometime during 1834. They settled near
Wardsville, Ontario by the 1842 census.
The
1842 Census for Mosa Township, Middlesex County, Ontario only listed females between the
ages of 14 and 45; no names. Lucy may or may not have been living with Robert at this
time.
It is currently not known who Lucy married, if she married at all, and if she had any
children. There is a story recollected (unfortunately not supportable yet) that suggests
that Robert Parr and family made a stop of unknown time frame near the
Kingston/Peterborough area. (The 1842 census says that Robert was in the province for 8
years, it didnt say "Township", so its possible that a period of
years was involved here.)
It was while Robert and family were in this area that Lucy was married and she stayed
there when the family moved on. From 1834, the arrival year to Ontario, to 1842, when
Robert and family were in Mosa Township, Lucys age would have been from 15 to 23
years of age.
The story is plausible, though nothing has been found yet to support it or refute it. |
